Guide: Malaga
Malaga is a gorgeous and
exciting city located on the Mediterranean Sea, in Andalucia, Spain. The
city offers countless historical landmarks, beautiful architecture, and
fun activities to keep every visitor interested and entertained. With a
more casual and laid back atmosphere than the larger cities in Spain, it
makes an ideal holiday destination. Thanks to several carriers offering
cheap
flights to Malaga, it is quickly becoming a popular getaway for those
from surrounding countries.
| Art lovers will be amazed
at the countless opportunities to enjoy Spanish paintings and sculpture
here in Malaga. As the birthplace of the artists Pablo Picasso, the town
has a heritage rich in artistry, and most people are quite well versed
on the Spanish masters. Visit the actual birthplace of Picasso and see
some of his works done as a child, and then head to the nearby Picasso
Museum to see some of his more famous works. For a more varied collection
of artwork, be sure not to miss the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo,
or Centre for Contemporary Arts, which boasts a hue collection of multi-media
pieces.
Two Moorish castles are perhaps
the architectural and historical highlight of the city. One of the castles
is called Castillo de Alcabaza, and is located right near the heart of
Malaga. Climb to the top of the tower for a breathtaking view of the surrounding
city. The second castle, Castillo de Gibralfaro, is slightly further away
from the city. However, thanks to inexpensive and plentiful car
hire in Malaga, the location is easy to drive to. The amazing ancient
building is well worth the journey, and offers some of the best photo taking
opportunities in the area. |

Of course, many visitors
to Malaga are simply excited to relax along the beach. With stunning white
sandy shores and a year round Mediterranean climate, no vacation to Malaga
would be complete without at least one day trip to the sea. A few minutes
of walking from the city centre will bring you to La Malagueta, one of
the most popular beaches in the area. It can be slightly crowded at times,
but visitors can simply walk along the waterfront until the crowd thins
out. Or, a simple bus or car trip East can bring you to several secluded
and isolated beaches, perfect for a romantic picnic or just a peaceful
swim in the calm warm waters.
There are also plenty of
recreational activities available in Malaga. One of the most popular and
fun ways to get around the city is by biking. Several bicycle shops rent
to visitors for a few hours, a day, or even a week. If you would rather
bike around the city as a group, join one of the guided tours to familiarize
yourself with the layout of the city before venturing out on your own.
